During the average year, the Crumble Cottage team kicks off the Christmas season with a trip to the Spirit of Christmas fair. This is where I first came across Stephen Yorke's work. This year however, the fair along with many others, has been cancelled. As a result, it is more important than ever for the British public to support businesses such as Crumble Cottage.

This year, I'll be happy if my blog posts can generate even a fraction of the publicity that small businesses usually generate from Christmas fairs and events.

During lockdown the Crumble Cottage clan have been working extremely hard to create a new range of festive merchandise to adorn your home. With their new, updated website you can now purchase absolutely all of it online. You can even 'attend' the new Spirit of Christmas virtual fair; start exploring and you might find some goodies!

My favourite selection from the Crumble Cottage Christmas merchandise has to be the advent calendars, an annual purchase in my household. The pictures are a lot more exciting than the Cadbury's calendars! This post however, is really about Yorke's latest book installation, Christmas Cold Callers.

This latest story about our favourite little mice is an endearing gift for your family....

Imagine a world in which people give their Christmas tree a name every year, a world in which strange visitors in the night become your friends and a world in which new friends can make your deepest desires a reality. Christmas Cold Callers, is a story of neighbourly friendship and acceptance. The moral of the story is, if you show kindness to someone, then you are likely to have that kindness returned. The story depicts a special Christmas Eve for Rosemary, Sedgewick and their family which begins when Rosemary takes a risk by inviting a group of foreign travellers to stay the night. These strange visitors however, turn out to be incredibly helpful and generous new friends.

This little nugget of escapist literature is a very personal Christmas present with a humbling message. It is exactly what you should be reading to your children (and yourselves) this Christmas; you won't be able to help falling in love with these characters, and if you ask nicely, you may even get your copy signed by Stephen Yorke.

The image below shows Rosemary and Sedgewick putting their feet up after a busy Christmas day. Although, not from the Christmas Cold Callers book, the scene perfectly encapsulates that warm, cosy Christmas feeling; cocooned in blankets by the fire with a sweet glass of sherry! Something for us Christmas fanatics to look forward to!
